“There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others who, thanks to their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun.” Pablo Picasso
SUMMER Art 2007:

On March 2o07, our city was rocked by a gang killing on State Street during broad daylight on a crowded street. The annual solstice parade is held on State Street. This year the theme was stars. We thought it was important to walk down the street in the parade with a float celebrating peacemakers like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Anne Frank to name a few “peace stars”. Teens worked with artists at the solstice workshop for two months to create the float. This was our way of walking down State Street as advocates for peace. It is our mission to walk our talk literally! We believe PEACE is possible one person at a time. Art is our way of sharing that message. In this case, we shared it with over 100,000 people watching the Solstice parade this year! |
